The River Walk
The river flows through. In the case of Bowmanville Zoo, the river is the Soper Creek. Meandering through the zoo from north to south it weaves through the landscape like an umbilical cord nurturing the land and binding all together. From its headwaters on the Oakridge's Moraine, it flows down to Lake Ontario and hence to the Atlantic Ocean. During its run it support innumerable aquatic life forms and hydrates the adjacent soil and plants. The endangered red sided Dace is among its inhabitants. To walk beside the creek, to hear the water laughing over the stones and the wind caress its surface is to know Bowmanville Zoo in all its beauty, harmony and content.
